Membership

Applications for full membership of the Australasian Institute of Emergency Services will be considered from persons who are at least 18 years of age and who:

  • Are members of a permanent emergency service or
  • Are volunteer members of emergency or associated services, including the Australian Defence Force or

Admission as a member may be granted if in the opinion of the General Council the applicant meets all other conditions of membership and passes such examination and/or other tests as required by Council.

Applications will also be considered from those who may not meet this criteria for one of our classes of affiliate membership. Details of affiliate membership are outlined below.

As a truly representative Institute our members are drawn from:

  • Aviation Fire and Rescue Services
  • Chaplains and pastoral carers to the emergency services
  • Community Services
  • Emergency Equipment Industry
  • Emergency Management Organisations
  • Fire Services
  • Health, Medical and Nursing Services
  • Lifeguards and Lifesavers
  • Maritime Rescue
  • Mines Rescue
  • Police Services
  • Safety Officers
  • State Emergency Services
  • Volunteer Marine Rescue
  • Work Health and Safety Officers
  • and other Volunteer Rescue Associations

Classes of Membership

There are four classes of membership:

  • Members
  • Fellows
  • Life Fellows
  • Corporate

There are five categories of affiliation with the Institute that may be offered to persons who do not meet the requirements for membership:

  • Associate
  • Student
  • Retired Member
  • Honorary Member
  • Honorary Fellow

Corporate Membership

Applications for corporate membership are welcome from any emergency service or emergency management organisation or group or any associated business or organisation.
The AIES is proud to acknowledge our corporate members by displaying their corporate logo, with direct links to their website, on our corporate members page. Corporate members receive a certificate of membership and a bronze plaque in acknowledgement of membership and are welcome to provide articles for inclusion in our national journal

Affiliate Membership

Membership applications will also be considered from students, from those who are less than 18 years of age, or people who otherwise may not meet the criteria of full members, for one of our classes of affiliate membership.

What Does Membership Cost

In these times of high costs of living and working, and as a service to our members, Institute fees are maintained as low as possible so as not to be a financial disincentive.

  • Members: $60
  • Fellows: $80
  • Corporate Subscription: $500
  • Affiliate Membership: $60

Note: Institute Fees may be tax deductible.

Applications for Membership

We welcome applications from anyone involved in the Emergency Services at home or abroad.

All applications for membership must be submitted using our online application forms that can be accessed by clicking on the links below.

Payment of the nomination and membership fee must accompany your application. Should an application for membership be unsuccessful the membership fee will be reimbursed. Nomination fees are not refundable.

Please note that all applicants must provide a valid email address in their application. When an application is approved applicants will be immediately notified by email.
